Folks,

I have had AT&T U-verse 400 bundle at my home in Plano for 6 months now. I have Cable (all channels), Internet (the fastest option), and voice (unlimited US and Canada calling). We call overseas quite often, and we currently use calling cards – needless to say, we're pained with the quality of the cards, and we're thinking Vonage.

My questions:

  1. If I get Vonage, is the 24.99$ per month Vonage going to be in addition to the AT&T voice that comes with my bundle?
  2. If not, can I ask AT&T to remove the voice option (so my monthly bill to AT&T is not the 198$ that it is right now), and I pay Vonage separately.
  3. Will doing this impact or affect any of my other services from AT&T – on-demand movies, internet, etc
  4. Will any of this have any impact on my security alarm system if I can get to keep the same phone number with Vonage
  5. Is the installation hard – or can I do it myself?
  6. I have 4 cordless phones in the house all using the same number – if I connect my Vonage box to the router and a phone to the Vonage box, will the other phones automatically get a dial tone – assuming they will because they're all cordless….

My apologies for a series of questions…but your help will be sincerely appreciated.

Cheers!!

Jude

1.) Yes, vonage is a different provider so if you only want 1 service I suggest you cancel on or the other. Might be just as cheap to keep uverse voice because I believe you get a bundle discount of 10 dollars. Also, I'm not positive how well vonage works with alarm systems, so you might call each company and decide which works best for you.

2.) Yes you can, voice is not required for uverse.

3.) Nope

4.) Not positive but Uverse voice has a battery back up so you will get a few hours if the power goes out but both work over the internet so neither are the best for an alarm system but should work. Traditional landlines have always been the best for alarms because they continue to work when the power is out.

5.) Installs are usually performed by a uverse tech.

6.) If you keep vonage nothing will change with that.

Hope that helps.
