Just got uverse and if I am watching tv for a length of time, the uverse turns off and goes to blue screen with screen saver. Almost like a computer screen saver that times out if the cursor is not moved for a period of time.
Do I have my uverse setting set up incorrectly?

It's suppose to do that, I think it saves bandwidth on the network if your not watching the TV. Just push the ATT button at the top of your remote (it should light up when pushed) and the press the OK button and your TV comes back on. This shouldn't happen while your TV is actually turned on, just when your TV is powered off and your box is still on.
This doesn't happen while your actually watching a show does it? If so how many hours are you watching before it does this?

I can only think of two things which might be the problem, one hardware based and one socially based:
Perhaps your box is overheating due to being near a heat source or because it is tightly packed into its cabinet and cannot breath. Most electronics are sensitive to heat in this way and will time out (turn themselves off) at some point due to it.
Perhaps you may be the victim of a practical joke. Remember that EVERY Uverse remote in the world is an identical duplicate and will control every box in the world. Is someone else in the house reaching around a corner with a remote and shutting off your STB? Could it be that one of your neighbors has Uverse also and is turning yours off through an uncovered window while turning their set off?
I hope these suggestions will help you. Uverse equipment usually doesnt die in the manner you described so maybe these suggestions will be more on the mark.

I think the boxes have a idle time out like a computer where it turns off after so many hours of idle time. Not sure on that tho.

I have this problem also.
Yes, the STB will switch to standby with the TV on.
Looks like it's based on some timeout with no channel change.
This is irritating to my wife who likes to leave a music channel on all the time while she's working around the house.
It's a greater nuisance for me. Occasionally I like to capture old movies (with my computer) and save to DVD. Sometimes these are in the wee hours of the morning and there's no one there to press buttons on the remote.
There should be some way to disable this standby feature.

I agree there should be some way to turn off the auto shut off! I have complained about this since we got U-Verse nearly 2 years ago! I was told it is a "power saving" mode built into the receivers and DVR. This makes no sense, as it does not "power" the unit off, it puts it on standby. I think it is more like a "you are too stupid to shut off a channel you are not using mode thus blocking a channel that would be a fifth feed in" mode! Those of us who know how to operate the equipment — DVR, dvd recorders, vcrs, etc — are extremely capable of making sure that we guard against not knocking off a channel we want to watch or record by trying to watch or record a 5th channel!
I too record things overnight and if I fail to wake up to reset the receiver I miss the program!
I love U-verse, but that feature makes me crazy!! nice to know I'm not alone!
