When I upgraded to Uverse, I received a 2-wire 3800HGV-B Gateway/router able to share files and folders on the ethernet wired PCs to any other PC (wired or wireless) however I am unable to share files between any 2 wireless PCs or when trying to connect from a wired PC to a wireless one. Before I received this router, I was able to share files from any PC to any other. The only thing that changed was the router/gateway. I am also unable to browse my network as I used to and am unable to ping any PC and get a response, I can only ping the gateway.

I suspect that it may be a firewall configuration problem, but I am unable to find the correct setting.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance to all who try to help.

I'm not sure on that one, I don't have any problems sharing from my two PC's wireless with the gateway. I'm running Vista and it was very easy to set up.

Let us know if you find a solution or figure out what the problem is.

I discovered the problem finally, after nearly 6 months of looking for it.

I am using Norton Internet Security, on all of my machines, that I downloaded from the ATT website. Well, it turns out that on all of the wireless machines, Norton blocked file sharing, browsing the network and various other settings when the access point was connected to the system. Apparently the software thought the new access point was a security threat and blocked its access automatically.

Accessing the General Rules in the Advanced Settings under the Personal Firewall area of the configuration in Norton, allowed me to reset all of the blocked services and restore the connection. Unfortunately, I had to perform the functions on each of the wireless machines (again, none of wired machines were affected) to restore service completely. As I reset each machine, I was able to access a greater portion of the network.

This was a very difficult nut to crack. I kept thinking that the problem was a firewall, but didn't do much looking at Norton, thinking that since it worked correctly on another access point, that it couldn't be the problem. Obviously I was wrong in that assumption.

I hope this post may help others with similar problems.

Thanks for sharing! You do the same thing I do, think logically and spend hours and the realize it's staring you in the face.
