I have three desktops networked wirelessly into the 2Wire Residential gateway that ATT/Uverse gave me last week. AT&T also gave me an external 2Wire USB wireless adapter, which holds a stable wireless connection to the residential gateway on the first desktop. I have an internal Linksys adapter in the second desktop and an external Belkin USB adapter on the third.
Several times over the past week, I've lost the connection on the second (internal Linksys adapter) and third (external Belkin) desktops. Upon attempting to reconnect, the desktops have trouble acquiring a network address, and generally get limited or no connectivity. They're seeing the network, but can't connect to it properly.
I've been able to fix the problem by powering down the residential gateway and restarting it. I also spent 45 minutes on the phone with an AT&T technician, who was very helpful, and was able to get the third desktop (external Belkin modem) back up primarily by shutting everything down and starting over.
Before I had Uverse, I was running an AT&T DSL through a Linksys router, and had similar problems with connectivity. Linksys had a utility that I was able to run ont he desktops, however, that got ris of the problem.
The technician sugegsted that I might have some signal interference which is crashing the two computers, but that doesn't really explain why the first desktop (which uses the external 2Wire adapter) stays connected.
Has anyone else experienced a similar problem with the 2Wire gateway and, if so, how have you fixed it? Thanks!
