the best way to delete a bunch of shows at once is through the web interface.
for normal erasing:
- when the program is finished playing, a menu appears and "Delete" is one of the options
- while the program is running, if you press "Stop" then a menu appears and "Delete" is one of the options
- while the program is running, the "Info" button will bring up the show details; there is a menu on the left and "Delete" is one of the options
- if you display the list of all your recordings, then select a particular show, then it will bring up the show details; there is a menu on the left and "Delete" is one of the options
- also, unless you have specifically marked a show "Keep until I delete" then the "oldest" shows will automatically get deleted as needed to make space for new recordings
