As many U-verse subscribers have been waiting since the launch of AT&T Uverse is for the launch of the multi-room DVR. Well, I’m in the DFW area here in Texas and I can tell you I have it today and without warning. This morning my wife calls me from work telling me one of the STB’s is not working, the main one, the DVR. So instruct her to reset the box and go through the standard trouble shooting steps. It comes back online and everything is normal. After a few hours at work I start thinking about news I have …

It seems a little buggy but it works and trust me it's nice for my wife to be able to watch her shows from the bedroom while football is one the Big Screen!

I bet you guys get it soon because it's just a software push.

I have to admit, this isn't bad, but not totally what I was expecting or hoping for.

It's not pointless or worthless, but at the same time, I was hoping I could rewind or forward through a liveprogram on any TV. You can't do that…you still have just one DVR mechanism. Again, not too bad, and that one has a hard drive, and I guess the other boxes do not have a storage device, so it probably cant' be done.

But given the fact they recently trimmed the rewind time of about 2 hrs down to just one, I was hoping they could all do it.

That, and you cannot view or modify scheduled recordings. I was hoping you could do that, but at least you can control that through the Internet so that's not all bad. I wonder if those features will be coming one day.

Other than that, I'm quite thrilled with it!

One trick that is kind of a pain but it works if you need to pause a live show you might be watching in another room. What we do if we know we might need to pause frequently we just go in the DVR room and set it to record then go back in the other room and watch it from the recorded shows so we can pause, ff, and rw as we please.

hey!!  they just updated my systems yesterday (Fri, 9/26).  they even left a voicemail letting me know.

i also noticed that the on-screen channel numbers are much bigger than they used to be (when i type them in on the remote)

i wonder what other hidden features they added…

Awesome!!! I figured it wouldn't be to long before you where upgraded as well. I think they just did an upgrade to the menu look and the DVR but who knows if you find something let's us know please sir!

I got the VM but I never checked my home phone so I didn't even notice it until last night - hehe!

Have fun with the whole room dvr!

i've notice 2 other things so far …

* when fastforwarding (thru commercials, etc), once i hit play the DVR is now automatically jumping back a few seconds.  i think that this will end up being great, but i'm so used to doing that 'little backup' myself its gonna take me some time to get used to it.

* when i highlight a show in the on-screen channel guide, the 1st thing that shows up down in the summary area is a description of the show and after a few seconds goes on the the actors.  this is exactly opposite of the way it used to be.  i guess i'll get used to this too, but i don't really like it; when i'm scanning for things to watch, i'm more likely to pick a show based on who's in it than what its about.

another new thing…

* there is now a “more showtimes” option when i bring up the detail screen of a show on the on-screen guide.  this could be very handy; especially for those like our friend in San Jose who missed out on the premier of Heroes the other day.

also…

* DVR seems to be starting 1 min. before show start and 1 min. after show end.  this is good since the time on the DVR seems to shift a lot - I often used to miss the first/last few seconds of a show.

not sure if this will cause problems when I'm recording on all 4 “channels”.  maybe i record 1 show from 7-8pm (DVR records from 6:59 to 8:01), then i have 4 shows from 8-9pm (DVR records from 7:59 to 9:01).  am i actually recording 5 shows from 7:59 to 8:01?

* the 'skip forward' button now jumps 40 seconds; i think it used to be 30;   the 'skip backward' button still seems to be about 7 seconds

* recording shows with the same name now results in 1 entry on the 'recordings list' with the number of shows in parentheses; i.e. “The Simpsons    (3)”; select the 1 entry and then you can see each of the shows separately

Whole Room DVR is so nice to have!

Zapp,

Your right the fastforward is different and a bit tricky to get used to but I think I like it because I usually pass my show fastfowarding anways, so this allows me to actually get it to stop on time nearly. And the colisidation of the recordings for series is nice, because it takes away from the clutter.

Really? I haven't seen either of those but my wife is going to college during the days and is home, so she may have got the message and didn't tell me.

Surely wouldn't be a surprise! Laughing
