Treadmill interferes with DVR playback

I recently got the update to the multi-room DVR feature.  It works fine except in my basement when I turn on my treadmill.  It works fine when I stop the treadmill, but when I start it, the DVR playback stops and I get some sort of error about the DVR not being accessible.  I'm assuming the treadmill is causing some type of interference with the built in wireless functionallity of the cable receiver.

Can anyone think of a way to stop this (other than turning off my treadmill and becoming a fat slob)?

Thanks

Some things just cause problems, I'm not sure there is a solution to this one.

xparrot you nailed it! the dvr is surprisingly sensitive to treadmills.. we even had a case that the treadmill is in the basement and the dvr is in the 2nd floor of the house and the dvr still dies everytime the treadmill is being used! hehe

i guess if they are connected on the same circuit(house power line wiring) the dvr would still be affect regardless of distance.

you need to stop using one of the two.. or.. isolate one of the two..  im not sure, but you can ask your electronic store guy about line voltage regulators [AVR(automatic voltage regulator) or maybe UPS(uninterruptible powersupply)] and connect it on your treadmill or dvr to isolate the device from "noisy" electrical power line supply. this "might" help..goodluck xparrot!

I have elliptical machine and no problems. It's in the living room with the DVR, that's very odd have you tried plugging the treadmil into a surge protector?

I have a similar problem.  I have one DVR with a 50" plasma TV set up on the main floor, and one box with a 50" plasma upstairs in the bedroom, another box with a 42" projection TV in the family room about 15' away from the bedroom.  Everything works fine except when I turn on the bedroom plasma (even with box disconnected to the TV), the signal feeds (recorded or live programs) to the projection TV stop.  The bedroom and the family room are in different electrical circuits.  I have both the plasma TV and the uverse box plugged to AVRs.  Doesn't work.  Try the two AVRs in series on the plasma, still nothing works.

Any advice?

That's strange, so it's even happening when the STB is unplugged?

I'm at a lost for a solution but please post the solution if your able to figure it out.

Yes, this happens only when the bedroom plasma is turned on, even with the STB turned off and disconnected to the plasma.  i will keep searching and checking back here for advice.  Thanks.

this might sound like a canned answer to you mr.cw .. but have you tried to reboot the RG? i meant ,just to be sure, unplugged the RG from the wall power outlet for half a minute. if this didn't solve it, talk to your member care rep. he/she might need to send a guy to your place.

Also check for loose cables connections some where and if you can if the plug in socket is well grounded.

Okay hopefully I have some new info on this treadmill thing. From what I have read here on DSL forum it appears that the treadmill power issue is caused some sort of noise that interface from the power line to the telephone line causing the modem or in this case the gateway to lose sync. The report I read was about ADSL but I would assume it would hold true for u-verse as well. A user reported using a Belkin PureAV PF60 for Home Theater Power console to regulate the interface as it goes into the power outlet. So essentially you would plug the pureAV into the wall and then plug your treadmill in the PureAv.

However things to consider:

1.) There really wasn't to much information I could find on the web about this, so there's not a whole lot of reports of success and nothing I could find directly relating to U-verse. So, in other words no telling if this will work.

2.) I looked up the PureAV PF60 on Amazon and the thing runs around $220 bucks, so it's going to cost you to test it out.

My suggestion is if you do decide to try this as a solution make sure to order from somewhere you know it can be returned in case it doesn't work.

If you do try, please post back and let the forum know so other users can try and know if they have any hope or not!

Oh and another thought. If anyone has the Belkin battery back up that you get with U-verse VOIP if you use it for you treadmill instead of your RG if that works. I mean I have this battery back up for the phone but doesn't matter because if my cordless base station loses power how is the phone suppose to come on anyway? I would have to have an old school phone and plug it directly into the back of the RG to get dial tone in a power outage. I don't even own one of those phones. Unfortunately I can't test the issue because I don't get the problem with out elliptical machine. (Please note: if you do this it's at your own risk)

Please post any info if anyone is able to test.

Just a note here:  Uverse voice is not compatible with rotary or pulse dialing.  I went to a customer's house on a repair call where he was complaining that he could not call out with his phone.  I noticed that the phone was set to pulse instead of tone.  I flipped the little switch back and it worked just fine after that.

You would think they would try that over the phone but hey sometimes it's the simplest thing. And Zapp your right I should have a regular phone in case of emergency and it's not recommended to not utilized the BBU for any other than your phone (disclaimer Laughing).
