To all-

My wife and I just built our home 3 years ago.  I'm an EE so when the home was being built I pulled my own wiring.  In the basement, I install a Leviton Network Structured Wiring system and inside the box I installed CAT5e, RG6U, audio, phone, wireless, etc., two wall boxes in every room.  Furthermore, to pull this off I'm already using a Linksys DSL switch router plus another Linksys switch to get wires to every part of the home.  With that said, how much of the existing wiring can I use for U-verse?  I want to have the lease amount of disturbance in my existing system as possible.

In my opinion, and from what I've read so-far, the technician will probably kiss me (hope its a chick!) when he or she sees my set up.

Also, when it's complete, will I be able to connect my STB to the wall jack and my home computer, etc. at the same time?

And, do I need my STB locally by my TV or can I mount it downstairs and connect an Ethernet cable directly to the back of my TV?  I would like to have the least amount of equipment locally in plain view.

Thanks for the support.

Regards,

David

Cool i glad you have your home wired up already. I would use all cat5 wiring if possible. Better more reliable. Also you can put your box downstairs if you have a rf remote and the wires already up threw the floor for the video feed to the tv. may take a little doing on your part but most techs can work some stuff out. And good luck on the kiss

I'm not positive if the same jacks will be hot for TV as Data but I think so. I'm all coax over here, so I don't get to play Frown.  However, I do know you can hook up a cat-5 cable to the back of a STB and get a internet connection and this would lead me to believe you could just plug straight into the wall.

The only problem I see with a STB is being able to change channels with the remote. With the whole room dvr getting upgraded soon you should be able to control your DVR from any TV in the house (soon means could be months already in DFW). I'm not sure what your options would be with a cable card.

Sounds like you got an awesome set up, make sure to work with the tech. Not all might be versed in the advanced set ups but usually they are and most are willing to work with you if you explain what you have going on.
