For TV damage related to U-verse customers

My mom and my boss both lost their televisions this week.  Both subscribe to U-verse and both had the same problem, the video is shot, and both have fairly new TVs.  I saw on the internet today that another U-verse customer also lost the video in both of his TVs.  In all cases, the TVs are unrepairable.  When you spend thousands of dollars, this is costly damage, and I have no doubt that it is U-verse -  related.  Keep this post in case your TV all of a sudden breaks down.

I agree Zapp we need this info on the forum ASAP to warm our users of a possible issues. Also, do you have surge protector, I have known folks that lost TV and box friend from power surge, so I bought one because it's not worth the risk.

I initially had issues when the DVR box was connected to my Mitsubishi WS-65411 Rear projection TV.  The screen would go wild with lines and then reset.  The ATT tech came out and looked over and said that signal was fine, box was fine, and then said it was probably an issue with the older TV.. Its 6 years old.  I told him I never had a problem with Charter box and same connections (component) some service, etc.  He said sometimes when you change providers different voltages..etc.. Bunch of BS.  Anyway not wanting to have my TV damaged, I called a TV repair tech and paid over $200 to have them come look at TV and make sure it wasnt going out.  Tech said TV was in great shape, no issues, and better than many others of same age.

Spent 3 hours on with Tech support phone, and no help getting anything for my troubles.  SO I decided to test/fiddle/screw around with it.  I moved the DVR box to a “Normal” 32 inch GE Television and it didnt have lines and worked fine.  So I put the NORMAL STB (Non-DVR) box on the Mitsubishi and NO ISSUES… So I think its the DVR box issue.

I have left the NORMAL STB on teh rear projection Mitsubishi and left the DVR in the normal TV.  I saw a post somewhere..(been searching the web like mad to solve own problems as ATT tech support is patient but incompetent)  That the DVR boxes (Cisco) made before 2009 had issues.  I still dont want to chance ruining a 2 grand TV.. so I will leave as is.

For those whose TV's messed up you might see if the TV that was affected was teh one connected to the DVR.  If so there may be an issue with the DVR boxes.  Then lift the box and see if the date of manufacture (it will look like 08/08)  is before Jan 09 (01/09).  YOu might also see if the TV's that broke were Rear Projection… if so there may be an issue with them like mine that is unknown to ATT or Cisco…

As I type this I am on with ATT tech support for the 9th time in 9 days… the URGE music channels freeze and again no help from Tech support…. I think my 30 day trial.. ha ha.. is going to end early unless it gets much better very fast!  Charter was more expensive but quality was about same and no issues in 9 years of being with them…

I would like to know how a STB providing source material can damage a tv or a monitor. Sounds fishy to me.
