When doing repetitive tasks with the remote like scrolling up and down, pressing the number keys multiple times to select channels or type in a search, sometimes the STB takes 2-3 seconds or longer to respond or doesn't respond at all. Consequently, you end up pressing the keys too many times or the STB moves over the the next character position before you are done. Only solution I can see is to give the remote control events higher priority on the STB, even at the expense of slowing or pausing other tasks.

Yea, I have just learned to be patient with the box but I think the best thing would be if AT&T would release boxes with faster processors or away to upgrade them to make them run faster.
I have that same problem but I have had it with other providers as well.

Since I got my new dvr box a couple of weeks ago, the response seems a little better except when paging up and down in the guide. If I just press the pgup or pgdn button one time on the remote it only seems to work about 1 out of 3 or 4 tries on average. Moving one line at a time with the cursor keys seems to be fairly reliable now. Don't know if this is the new DVR box or a software change that was installed.

I've had tons of problems with my dvr and remote to it. I have two other receivers that work great with all the remotes. I've had the dvr replaced twice, but still the same problems. I can't control the dvr at all sometimes. Sometimes it just turns off when I'm switching channels, goes up when I press the right key while viewing the channel guide. I've got fresh batteries in the remote and it works great with the regular receivers, but terrible with the dvr. I've called customer service and the keep telling me to reset the box or they run tests and reset something on their end. Sometimes the remote works well on the dvr, but most of the time it flat out sucks. I've used every remote in the house on the dvr and the all have problems controlling the dvr but not the regular receivers.

This is a typical behavior of the set-top boxes. Dont look for boxes with faster processors anytime soon. The system is designed to function and improve with software updates on long-shelf life hardware. Your best bet is to just be patient with the set-top box and try not to press the buttons too many times at once. The power light will flash to let you know it has received the command.

I have this really debilitating problem where my remote has almost no range. I just got my set top box upgraded from the U100 to the DVR with U200. When the technician came and installed the DVR today, everything was fine, the responsiveness was great, etc. I went to work and came back home, and now the responsiveness is horrendous but even worse is that I have to hold the remote control 1 ft in front of the set top box in order for it to receive the signal. This isn't a battery problem because I'm using a new set of batteries.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is there anything I can do to solve this problem? It's rendered this completely useless to me!!!

Problems with the dvr and remote sluggishness i have found it could be a few things that cause this one the remote is bad 2, bad connectivity to att servers, if you have a lcd or plasma tv the brightness of the screen can cause issues with the remote, or you got a bad dvr.
The dvr functionality is controlled by att servers so when you press a button for the dvr it asks att is this is allowed. same way for the stb.
Try turning the brightness down on the box, also try pluging the dvr directly into the rg with a ethernet cable and see if the problem changes.

Ken, I was so glad to read your post, because I'm having the same problem. Did you ever receive a solution?
The remote only controls the DVR when it's 1-2 feet away, but it does control the TV and DVD player from 25 feet away, so I'm assuming it has something to do with the DVR and not the remote.
This is quite confusing and frustrating. Does anyone have an explanation/solution?
Thanks,
Rayzer

For the remote issue only working 1ft away. We had alot of this hapening found out there was a tv setting for energy mode which interfered with the ir on the remote the box. Each tv has a name for it. This is on newer lcd tvs say in past 1 year or so. Try to find the setting and turn it off. If you dont have a lcd and jsut plain old tv get a new box because it should not acted that way.

RE: Slow scolling of channel guide-remote response.
One solution: Delete unused channels to speed up scrolliing.
[MENU>OPTIONS>CHANNEL OPTIONS>HIDE CHANNELS.]
Then select channels to watch. Or "Select All" and uncheck channels not want to be viewed.
