Just purchased U-Verse 2 weeks ago, on my 3rd DVR unit. All 3 freeze when the tv and unit is powered off for more than 5 minutes. Once I power back on the screen is frozen. The oly option I have that works is to unplug unit and plug back in so it can reboot. The most recent service guy told me that he thinks it's the HDMI cable and my Sony TV. He recommended I try component cables. I did and still have the same issue, frozen screen. No one has an answer, any insight is greatly appreciated.

Hook the DVR to another TV and see if you get the same results. That why you know for sure if it's the TV or U-verse service.

I have been with ATT Uverse for a couple of years.
I am currently waiting for the service person to come by again; DVR locking up again.
This starts with the screen going blank, then a message comes up saying searching for service, then a small gear comes up followed by the small gear being joined by a larger gear. This is usually a 15 minuet cycle. Last night it happened twice within an hour. We has a repairman out last Saturday and now I am waiting for another.
If I did not like Uverse programming, we would switch cable providers; although we are about to the point where we have had enough.
Does anybody have any ideas why the DVR locks up? If ATT knows they are not saying.

I haven't hear much about this problem but it sounds like a hardware issue. Have they replaced the DVR?

I now have this problem all the time but it only started after I upgraded to a hi-def Sony Bravia. See this post for details: http://uverse-universe.com/for…..ots/#p1549

I responded to the other post but it looks like it might be something going on with the set top box. Also, another thought is maybe the set top box is over heating. You might try moving it somewhere were it can get more ventilation or trying putting a box fan on it just to test how it works in a cooler environment.
Just guesses though but I'd play with the location and see. If all else fails I would start hounding tech support for a solution and even possibly replacing the unit.

I have notice recent problems w/the dvr's. The issues are recordings being lost or a red X and I think it might have something to do w/an update. Don't think your tv is rear projection, but we have also notice pix freezing when too close to a rear projection tv. If you did just replace tv make sure all fitttings are tight. A loose F-connector on the wall or back of the box can definately cause freezing.

I have a continuing problem with my DVR freezing. I get a message to unplug HDMI and Power connector and then re-connect. It usually happens when there are two tv's on and the DVR is also recording and I am operating the remote to channel surf or check the guide. Rebooting takes about 5 minutes and another 10 to stop pixalating. In addition to not being able to watch live TV during this time, I also lose part of the shows being recorded.
ATT has been out three times. They have replaced connectors, cables, DVR, and 2wire router. I still have the problem. The online tech suggested that I separate the TV and the DVR. He thinks the TV is affecting the DVR. If that is the problem, they need to shield the DVR better. I already have problem with the remote powering the TV and DVR in sync. Separating them will only make the trouble worse. He also said that I should schedule no more than 20-25 programs! are you kidding. That is only two of the wife's soaps!
To me it is obvious that there is a limitation to the tasks that the DVR can process. When it reaches that limit, it freezes. The DVR needs more processing power and better operational software.
ATT would like me to think that I am the only one having this problem, but I can see that others are experiencing simiilar problems.
