I have been having a lot of problems lately where my recorded show just delivers a black screen when I make the 'Play' command. It does not allow fast forward or reverse. I have to unplug the DVR from power at the wall, wait a few minutes plug it back in and start the process over, where ot may or may not work.

What is the cause and what is the fix, please?

this has happened to me about 6 times since i got my service in late 2007.

there seems to be nothing that can be done.

like you mentioned, usually if i reset the DVR (although i use the "push-and-hold-power-button" technique, not unplug from wall) the program will start running.  but a few times i have just lost that program (then i have to go find it on the internet & download/watch on my PC!!)
