Considering going to U-verse but am techie enough to want to see what the input/output connectors on the DVR are. And what they will and won't do. AT&T's sales gurus are no help, 'cause they say they don't have a clue. Anyone here know of any links that would enlighten me? And maybe for the receivers, too? Or is there another “topic” where this post would be more appropriate?
Sign me curious

My DVR has all the following specifications standard RCA (red, yellow, white), RBG (HD – Red, blue- green), optical audio, Coaxial audio, coax video, and HDMI. Also there is a USB port on the front but I'm not sure anyone has got it to work for anything useful.

Thank you, sir. Any indication which are in and which out? And do you know the size of the hard drive in your unit? Thanks again.

Thanks. That last link pretty well answered my first layer of questions. I'm getting the second layer lined up and will search thru the forum to see if I can squeeze out the anwers and save time. Thanks again.

That review that Chris did is pretty good. I really need to get my butt in gear and redo the one we have posted on this site. However, once I finish this semester in school maybe I will have a little more time.
I'm pretty sure that the HD in the DVR is standard because I remember some time ago their was some threads about replacing the HD with a more capable hard drive. However, it went away quickly because it was voiding warranties, so I never posted the information here because we don't suggest you mod your box.
However, more power to you if you can do it successfully!

Franklyn just an fyi, all connectors are output only. HDMI has some issues on some tv's. All dvr's and stb's are sd and hd ready. If you order hd you are sopposed to get a larger harddrive. At least in my area we have the cisco box the smaller hd is model 430mc and the larger for the hd is 4320.

Really, I bet I have the smaller box because when I got service I'm not positive they even had HD.

FYI I found an aftermarket tech outfit that would install a 750GB HD in an AT&T U-verse DVR for $298. At SD resulution that seems like it would hold a huge bunch of recorded shows. Comments?

Seems expensive for 750GB. You can get a 1TB HD on newegg for around 150 or less. Do they have to do any other mods beyond just connecting it?

I guess it could be done but just remember if they fry the box you are responsible for the box being payed for. Just so you know.

Yes, it would be at your own risk and that's exactly why I haven't touched mine.
